Sacramento International (KSMF) is a medium size regional airport that links the capital city of California to all major airports and airline hubs in the western US and Mexico. It has two passenger terminals with a total of thirty gates. Terminal A, the oldest, has ground-level side-by-side departures and arrivals halls and a twelve-gate concourse. Its design incorporates glass throughout. American, Delta, United, and their regional partners Compass, Skywest and GoJet use Terminal A. Air Canada also uses it for non-stop flights to Vancouver.
Designed by world-renowned architects and completed in 2011, the new Terminal B is state-of-the-art in both architecture and functionality. The main terminal building is open and bright, featuring high ceilings and glass walls. An automated people mover links the main building to a remote concourse of similar design. The concourse has customs and immigration facilities to handle international arrivals. We paid particular attention and spared no effort to accurately reproduce the entire terminal in our scenery. Alaska, Hawaiian, JetBlue, Frontier, Southwest and Spirit use terminal B. Aeromexico and Volaris use it for daily flights to Mexico City, Guadalajara and other cities in Mexico.
Our scenery depicts KSMF as it exists in the fall of 2019. Our renderings of both terminals and their concourses feature an unprecedented level of three-dimensional detail. We use transparency effects throughout to enhance the 3D feel of the glass-rich designs. Using recent satellite imagery of the airport we accurately positioned the aircraft parking positions around the concourses. Parking positions include accurate markings and boarding gates include customized static jetways and service vehicles.
Our scenery also includes the ATC tower and the parking deck next to terminal A. It also includes most of the general aviation, aircraft maintenance and cargo facilities on the southwest side of the field. The scenery also depicts with significant level of three-dimensional detail the fire station, the fuel farm and the extensive solar power plant on the north side of the field.
We positioned the two parallel north-south runways as accurately as possible and added customized approach lighting including lights and fixtures. (The user may opt to remove the customized lights and use the default.) We also added navigational aid antennae and in-ground light fixtures. The taxiway layout is also as accurate as possible and features enhanced markings and lights designed to work best in Prepar3D.
